Art Gallery Coordinator | Canada Summer Jobs

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Artistic/Executive Director, the Art Gallery co-ordinator will provide administrative, logistical and production support to our Summer Exhibition Schedule

Each summer, IMA hosts a variety of month-long art exhibitions in addition to receptions and coffee houses featuring local performers in conjunction with the School of the Arts and performing arts events. The Art Gallery Co-ordinator will facilitate IMA’s annual summer Public Art Gallery program in conjunction with related events. These will include receptions, artists talks, concerts, instructor and student performances, workshops, readings, and barbecues.

The Art Gallery Co-ordinator will work with artists and assist with curation and hanging of exhibits and displays, coordinate gallery opening receptions, and liaise with artisans, manage gift shop customer service, daily cash transactions and maintain tidiness in the gallery. They will assist in the preparation of exhibition posters, press releases and promotional mailings. They will greet and provide assistance and information to gallery and gift shop customers as well as volunteers and artists. They will assist with all aspects of daily office duties such as answering phones, emails, filing, photocopying, and other duties as necessitated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of the Art Gallery Co-ordinator are:

  • Assisting the Artistic Director in coordinating IMA exhibitions

  • Providing clear and timely communications between the gallery and marketing.

  • Assisting in marketing and promotion of exhibitions.

  • Working with the IMA team to maximize the impact of visiting artists on the community.

  • Assisting with the set up and strike of exhibitions.

  • Managing the daily operations of the Gift Shop, including customer service and cash sales, daily cash balancing.

  • Ensuring timely and effective internal communications.

  • Tracking metrics, preparing grant reports and other documents.

  • Assisting with program implementation and execution where needed

  • Acting as a liaison between exhibition artists, contractors and the organization.  

Regular communication with staff, and accurate, up-to-date record keeping and report generation are essential functions of this position.

ABOUT THE HOURS

This is a full-time, 30 hour / week position and requires a willingness to work flexible hours as dictated by the needs of the job.  Evening and weekend work, as well as occasional shifts alone will be necessary. This position requires living and working in Wells.

Youth Programs Coordinator | Canada Summer Jobs

Reporting to the Artistic/Executive Director, the Co-ordinator (youth recreational and leisure activities) will provide administrative, programming, logistical and production support to our Summer School of Arts programming with a youth-centric approach. 

Our workshops for youth run the artistic gamut, including literary, visual and performing Arts. We host drop-in programs- half day and full day art workshops for young people, primarily between the ages of 6 and 13. For the Summer of 2024, this is slated to include workshops associated with Gallery and Residency Artist Programming (3-4 artists during the scope of this contract), workshops for youth associated with our Art + The Forest programming, and workshops associated with the ArtsWells Festival. 

This position works in collaboration with the marketing, school of arts, art gallery and festival coordinators to build a cohesive schedule of events and transparent information dissemination to maximize attendance and satisfaction at IMA events.

  • Providing clear and timely communications between programming/production and Marketing.

  • Working with the IMA team to maximize the impact of visiting artists on the community.

  • Ensuring timely and effective internal communications.

  • Ensuring health and safety protocols are followed.

  • Tracking metrics, preparing grant reports and other documents.

  • Assisting with program implementation and execution.

  • Acting as a liaison between instructors, parents and the organization.  

Regular communication with staff, and accurate, up-to-date record keeping and report generation are essential functions of this position.

This is a full-time, 30 hour / week position and requires a willingness to work flexible hours as dictated by the needs of the job.  Evening and weekend work will be necessary. This position requires work in Wells, though some planning work can be done remotely.
