Using the outdoors as inspiration and subject matter and by working au plein air (weather permitting) students will create a number of works in a variety of media. Depending on age and ability, students will learn about atmospheric perspective, colour mixing and colour wheel, line and form and highlights and shadow. This 5-day course will focus on a different medium each day culminating in a free for all on the fifth day. These mediums include paint, collage, pastels and printmaking. On the fifth day students will be encouraged to combine techniques and mediums explored in previous lessons to create a large masterpiece. For the morning session, students can register for “Cello Boot Camp” with Morag Northey.
Day One
Work with paint focusing on colour, colour mixing and complimentary colours. Atmospheric perspective will be introduced.
Day Two
Work with Pastels to focus on line, repetition and patterns. The idea of highlight and shadow will be introduces.
Day Three
Work with simple hand printing forms to explore shapes. This will reinforce ideas and open new options for creating using repetition and pattern. Colour mixing, complimentary colours and line will be reintroduced.
Day Four
Collage will allow students to explore form and material in a new way. It will also introduce natural elements to the works. These materials will be collected by students from the outdoors.
Day Five
Students can feel free to mix and mingle all materials, ideas and concepts to create one large masterpiece.
