Course Description:

Come and experiment with Northern Wilderness low impact environmental and natural dyes.
This workshop will give you a range of skills to identify local plants and easily available materials to explore an exciting palette to use for your textile creations.
You will learn to gather and make your own dyes, safe and low impact methods such as solar dyeing, how to make a simple solar oven as a heat source, how to use safe mordants and current no mordants methods and the use of safe mordants, controlled fading, pyrography and dyeing with soil and rusting.
You will need a notebook and a pen. A camera wouldn’t hurt. Come prepared for all weather. Bring insect repellent, a sun hat, sunscreen and proper shoes for taking a small wilderness walk.
Instructor will provide materials and equipment, a portfolio binder for samples, instruction notes and a good bibliography.
Inspiring books and materials will be available for sale.
Bio
Patricia Chauncey is a precision dyer and textile artist who has experimented with colour professionally for 20 years. She has instructed with places like the Vancouver Guild of Fabric Arts and at Capilano University in North Vancouver. She owns the Small Talk Gallery in Wells, B.C. and maintains a studio at the Williams and Clark Studios in Vancouver B.C.
Her most recent show "Underground" was held in the mine gallery at Britannia Beach. Experimenting with and recreating natural colour, surfaces and structure is her true passion. She has the reputation of being a true mad scientist when faced with a yard of cloth.

Island Mountain Arts School Policies
- Registration: A (non refundable) deposit is payable upon registration. Final payment is due no later than seven days before a course begins. Please add 12% HST to adult courses.
- The registration deadline is two weeks before class start. Registrations will be taken after that date, space permitting.
- Refund: There are no refunds on course deposits. If full payment has been made, and a student withdraws from a course, 75% of the workshop fee will be refunded. Note - there are no refunds the final week before classes begin.
- Cancellation Policy: If Island Mountain Arts cancels a course due to insufficient registration, the entire fee will be refunded. Cancellation decisions are made two weeks before course start.
