Course Description:  This course will focus on the process of writing a children’s book from generating ideas to the final preparation of a manuscript for submission to a publisher. Through writing exercises, discussion and analysis of current children’s books, we will develop skills for plotting and structuring scenes, writing believable dialogue, making characters come alive , creating suspense and conflict and effective revision.  We will also look at what sells in the current market. Students will have an opportunity to present work for input from the group.

Bio: Becky Citra has written more than a dozen books for children including the Max and Ellie historical fiction series and the Enchanted Theater time travel fantasy series.   She is also the author of the chapter books School Campout and Dog Days, and a juvenile novel Never To Be Told.  Her books have received nominations for the Rocky Mountain, Chocolate Lily, Silver Birch and Hackmatack Awards.  Becky lives in Bridge Lake, B.C. She travels to schools and libraries to meet with groups of children and she facilitates an adult writing group.
