This five-day workshop will be tailored to the participant’s level of achievement. Beginners to experienced will be accommodated. Every session will begin with an introduction or reminder of fundamental playing principals based on Morag’s warm-up system, followed by a technique class. A masterclass where students showcase etudes and pieces will follow and each days session will end with the piece de resistance...chamber music through the best of the yummiest - Cello Choir! Morag will mail-out supporting materials after receiving a description of those attending. Students can practice in the morning or go for a lovely stroll in picturesque Wells B.C., visit the Barkerville gold rush town, or simply enjoy a cup of their favorite drink while being inspired by the many art spaces in Wells and then, rev up their cellos for this fun session, following lunch! Morag offers a very rewarding and memorable approach to furthering your love of the cello. Since releasing her first CD ‘This is the Life’ with Calgary musicians Brent Van Dusen and Jonathan Lewis last year, Morag has played for the closing reception of the Dalai Lama tour, spent a week performing inside the Athletes Village for the Olympic games and performed for the Governor General of Canada. Always willing to be open in the spirit of sharing “I am excited to work with any and all who come to play! Now let’s get going!” www.moragnorthey.com
Morag Northey is an inspiring teacher of the cello, as well as a performing cellist, singer/songwriter, and poet. Her formal cello education, which began at age 12 with Judith Fraser, later James Hunter, Phyllis Young, and Tom Rolston, forms the backbone of her creative energy and the experience of openly exploring many artistic genres while still holding true to the fine fundamentals that her sound musical foundation is built on. Through an informed, passionate, and individual teaching approach her student’s creative potential is raised. With Morag, you will tap into your inner cello voice and listen to where it wants to take you and then be guided to opening up and bettering your playing by an enthusiastic teacher with 30 years teaching experience.
