Course Description:
Writers need to diversify these days. Creative writing must keep leaping genre lines, in its search for new sources of energy and inspiration. Certain skills are generally useful whether your interest lies in poetry, journal writing, plays, novels with plot, character and dialogue, or imaginative personal essays. As we explore what it means to work as a poet, a novelist, a writer of short stories or creative non-fiction, you may well discover talents you never knew you had.
The exercises and writing practice we do in this workshop, and the constructive feedback you will receive, will make you a better, more creative writer, no matter what kind of writing you do.

Some comments on her role as instructor and mentor:
Rhonda UBC MFA Programme: “Susan Musgrave, you are sooo worth the tuition!!” (2007)
David (Summer 2008) I learned as much emotionally as I did in other ways: thanks for being who you are.
Sue (Fall 2008) Thank you so much, Susan, for taking this/me on and helping me to not only overcome my fear of poetry, but to actually like trying to write it. I feel lucky to have had you as my teacher -- I don’t mean this to sound cheesy, but you’ve made me feel like it’s okay to not know and then inspired and supported to explore and learn.
Claudia (Spring 2009) Thanks for leading me into dangerous places!
Genny (Spring 2009) “I gave up my ticket to see Bob Dylan so I could come to your class. And I had one of the best seats in the house, too.”
