Ukulele Camp with Rae Spoon, Aug 1-2, 2012

An ArtsWells Pre-Festival Workshop

Ukulele Camp
Wednesday, August 1 - Thursday, August 2, 2012
9am - 3:30pm

Instructor: Rae Spoon
Early Bird Fee: $215 (Pay in full by June 1)
Regular Fee: $240

Ukulele Camp is an introductory workshop on the joyous world of the ukulele taught by folk singer Rae Spoon.  The ukulele has been called the easiest instrument in the world, which means there will be quick transition between
the challenges of learning it to the unlimited amount of fun that is actually playing it.

Participants will start by learning the foundation of the instrument. Things like tuning, where notes are found on the neck and chords shapes.  We will then move on to various other techniques including finger picking, strumming and finding your own style.

Playing songs will be the center of our focus.  The most important thing is that participants learn songs they actually want to play, so come with a few song ideas in mind (I will happily teach you anything from Lady Gaga to a traditional folk song).  Singing and playing the ukulele at the same time will be something to try, and uke solos will be highly encouraged.

The workshop will culminate in the composition of a Ukulele Camp theme song with the possibility of performing it somewhere during Arts Wells. Participation in the performance will not be mandatory, but is important because it will help promote the ukulele as an instrument superior to all others.
