Course Description: Succeeding as an artist in any discipline requires more than technical excellence and talent - it also means feeding your body and soul while building your career. Discover how your strengths as a creative person can be applied to earning a living, and make a plan to take charge of your working life without compromising your goals as an artist.
Bio: Judi brings to Wells a wealth of direct experience working with artists of all disciplines. Through her twelve years at the Greater Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture, developing programs, including the S.E.A.R.C.H. Program, to address the career resiliency challenges of artists, has solidly rooted her knowledge of the sector of the working artist. Judi’s knowledge of the broader landscape of the sector, the economy and the policy architecture affecting employment, self-employment and small business, help her workshop participants frame their career self-management plans and actions within a larger context.
Throughout the development and evolution of the S.E.A.R.C.H. Program from 1996 to 2007, nearly 2000 creative and unconventional individuals shared their stories and built a new framework for managing a life in the arts while generating sustainable income.
Judi maintains a small organizational development consultancy practice. In March 2008 she presented a paper at the International Forum on the Creative Economy, and sits as an advocate for the cultural sector on the BC Social Economy Roundtable and the Steering Committee of the Voluntary Organizations Consortium of BC.
