Harp Rental: $65 for the week
We will focus on technique, creativity and musicality. We will work on speed, rhythm, control, dynamics and tone with an emphasis on playing without tension. Bring music that you would like help with arranging. We will learn some tools for creating your own introductions and interludes to add length and pizzazz to your tunes. Review your music theory, arpeggios and scales before August. Also, please bring music that you play well but would like to polish so we can work on the skills used in bringing music up to a performance level. We will spend some time on learning to accompany other instruments or your own voice. Please email any suggestions for music. Be prepared to work hard and create beautiful music. The goal is to perform music that you love in your own style.
Bio
Sunita Staneslow has played in concert halls and pubs from New Zealand to Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Sunita is classically trained although her passion is traditional music. She specializes in both Jewish and Celtic music and leads workshops for harpists throughout North America. Sunita has recorded 12 CDs on several labels of Jewish, Celtic and classical music and just released a new recording of Irish and Scottish airs for solo harp. But, Sunita is best known for her folk harp arrangements. Sunita has 13 books published by Mel Bay, Sylvia Woods and Afgahn Press. Once a week, Sunita works as a therapeutic musician in a children’s hospital near Tel Aviv. Last spring she performed at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival with Tzalool, her harp and fiddle duo. This summer she will be teaching and performing at the Big Sky Folk Harp Festival and the Somerset Folk Harp Festival. www.sunitaharp.com and www.fiddleandharp.com

August 10, 7pm - Welcome Reception: A chance to meet your instructors and pick up your student information packages.
August 12 - Dinner and Harp Concert: Enjoy this evening of great food and performances by the instructors. Extra tickets can be purchased for the dinner and concert for $40: $25 for concert only.
August 13 - Afternoon Outing:Enjoy a trip to Barkerville Historic Town and the Theatre Royal.
August 15, 6pm - Final Night Ceilidh and Potluck Party: A chance for students and instructors to perform.
General Adult Course Information
Classes are held in the large, airy classrooms of the Wells-Barkerville School and run from 9am - 3:30pm with a lunch break from 12 - 1:30pm.
Please note that the lunch break for youth and children’s courses runs 12pm - 1pm.
An affordable breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase at the school.
Discounted accommodations, as well as discounts to restaurants and attractions in Wells/Barkerville are offered to IMA students from businesses.
REGISTRATION POLICY: A non-refundable deposit (approx. 25% of course fee unless otherwise stated) or full payment is required upon registration. Registration deadline is two weeks before course start date. Final payment is due no later than seven days before a course begins. Please add 5% GST to adult courses and material fees. Gift certificates are available.
REFUND POLICY: There are no refunds on course deposits. If full payment has been made and a student withdraws from a course, the fee less the deposit will be refunded.
NOTE: No refunds will be made during the final week before classes begin.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If Island Mountain Arts cancels a course due to insufficient registration, the entire fee will be refunded. Cancellation decisions are made two weeks before course start.
